2018 Camry vs Honda Accord

Most automakers produce a model of mid-size car, but the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are at the head of the line. For years, both cars have been popular options for Canadians thanks to their fuel efficiency, features, ride quality, and overall value. For 2018 the two legends are back and going head-to-head for the title of best mid-size car in Canada.

While it’s a close race, here are three reasons the 2018 Toyota Camry leaves the 2018 Honda Accord in its dust:

Performance

Mid-size family sedans don’t have to be boring and the Toyota Camry proves it by providing responsive handling and exhilarating engine options. The Camry produces an impressive 203 hp from its base 2.5L engine; the Honda’s 1.5L engine produces a respectable 193 hp but it can’t compare to the Camry. For even more power, the Camry has an optional 3.5L V6 engine available that produces 301 hp, while the most powerful engine available for the accord is a turbo 2L engine capable of producing 252 hp.

It’s also interesting to note that the 2018 Toyota Camry has a mechanical gearshift while the Accord has a push-button gearshift that’s known for being hard to use.

“The 2018 Camry has more spirit than its predecessor, which is most apparent in its more substantial steering and handling abilities. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder gives adequate shove in most conditions, and its new eight-speed automatic transmission is well-mannered.” - Edmunds.com

Interior Design

When it comes to comfort, the Toyota Camry has a clear advantage over the Honda Accord. Many automotive publications made note of the plastic materials in the Honda Accord along with the thin material on the seats. For the music lovers out there it’s important to know the Camry has a 6-speaker sound system compared to the Accord’s 4-speaker system.

Safety First

Safety is the most important aspect of any vehicle. All automakers want to ensure you and your passengers get to your destination safe and sound. The 2018 Toyota Camry shows you how seriously Toyota takes your safety; the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Camry a Top Safety Pick+ safety rating for 2018 with a virtually perfect score. The Honda Accord received a decent score but it couldn’t compete with the Camry.

All Camry models come with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS), which is a suite of important safety features aimed at making your driving life as safe as possible. Impressive crash test ratings and the included TSS suite of safety features show you just how dedicated to safety Toyota truly is.

To get a true sense of what the 2018 Toyota Camry is all about, your best bet is to take one for a test drive. Take a 2018 Camry for a spin and find out if it’s the right mid-size sedan for you and your family.
