When we say that winter is coming, we don’t necessarily mean that it’s time to start watching the next season of Game of Thrones. We mean that our harsh Canadian winters are about to arrive with all of the snow, sleet, and ice that we’ve come to love and hate. In some parts of our province, it’s already hitting! What does that mean for your vehicle? We’re here to set the record straight.

Winter Tires

As a vehicle owner, it should come as no surprise that it’s the time to get some new boots, or winter tires, for your vehicle. Here in BC, it’s even illegal not to have them for many highways. We have a tire locator tool that can help you find the right tires, whether you’re driving a Toyota or any other make and model of vehicle. Your tire pressure changes when the temperature starts to drop and this can impact driving performance. Don’t get caught in the cold or on the side of the road!

With the tire locator tool, you’ll be able to choose from a wide selection of brands with names like Michelin, Hankook, BF Goodrich, and more. We’ll find you the right tire options based on your vehicle and its unique wheel specifications. Once you have some tires in mind, our Toyota trained technicians will swap out your summer slicks for some winter boots in our shop.

Prepare for the Worst, Drive for the Best

When stocking your vehicle, it’s important to make sure that you’re ready for winter’s worst. Everyone should keep an emergency kit in his or her vehicle in case of road closures, getting lost, or mechanical issues. Include things like gloves, nonperishable food items, blankets a flashlight, basic tools, and medical supplies.

When it comes to keeping your car safe from the elements, the easiest thing you can do is to keep antifreeze and windshield washer fluid that’s rated for winter performance available and topped up at all times. Nothing is worse than the gross white film that splashes of sandy slush from other vehicles can leave behind. It can impair your vision during a time when you need it most.

Keep it Clean and Make it Last

In addition to staying ice-free, being defensive against the elements can keep your family and other drivers safe. Always be sure to completely remove any snow and ice buildup from your vehicle before hitting the roads. Every vehicle has a blind spot or two: don’t make it worse with snow and ice blocking your view. A quick cleanup before you drive to work can save your life. Our detailing services are second-to-none with Toyota Touch detailing, you’ll be able to get the right clean for you.

Depending on where you live, the roads will likely end up coated in salt and sand to prevent vehicles from slipping and sliding. While helpful to keep traction steady, salt is one of the worst culprits when it comes to rust damage on vehicles. Keep the undercarriage and lower portions of your vehicle cleaned regularly to prevent salt buildup and corrosion. Our service department can even help with additional rust-proofing options, tire storage, and winterizing services. Don’t get caught in the cold. Book your appointment today!
